Ken Davies

Ken Davies describes and demonstrates his techniques from “Trompe L’oeil” through American Still Life to “white interior abstractions.” Mr. Davies’ tape is an intimate visit with an extraordinary artist. Some of Ken‘s best-loved lessons from the Paier School of Art are also included in this film, including three demonstrations focused specifically on the technique of precise still life painting. The artist also shows us his still life setups, and explains his philosophy and methods. Also included is a unique tour of Mr. Davies private home studio.

Ken Davies was born December, 1925 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, studied at The Massachusetts School of Art in Boston and received a B.F.A. from the Yale School of Fine Arts in 1950. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from The New England School of Law, Boston, MA. Ken is Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus of the Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut.

His paintings appear in many museums, corporate and private collections across the country. Among them are; the Asheville Museum of Fine Art, Berkshire Museum, Brandywine River Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, New Bedford Whaling Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institute, Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, Wadsworth Athenaeum, White House Historical Association and The Manoogian Collection. Also, American Express, Austin Nichols Distilling Co., General Mills, and International Harvester, Inc.
